A comparative study

Section LEUCOGLOCHIN

Only one species from Section LEUCOGLOCHIN is found in Renfrew County.

Carex pauciflora Lightf., Few-flowered Sedge

Carex pauciflora is found on open mats of peat bogs. The staminate scales of this plant form a cone on the top of the solitary spike and the perigynia become reflexed with age leading to an arrow shaped inflorescence (see Figures). Carex pauciflora is small and very inconspicuous and it usually takes conscious effort to find it in the appropriate habitat. Only two locations have been mapped for this species in Renfrew County (both herbarium records are duplicates from the same site) but, as it is very easily overlooked, it may not be rare.
