The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

By Grant A. Bickel, 2020

Carex gynandra Schwein., Nodding Sedge (Section PHACOCYSTIS)

Carex gynandra is common in Renfrew County preferring the sandy soils in the northwestern portion of the county. Carex gynandra is superficially identical to Carex crinita; the long pendulous pistillate spikes are distinctive to both. The identity of Carex gynandra can be confirmed by feeling its scabrous lower sheaths.
