Only one species comprises Section DISPERMAE.

Carex disperma Dew., Two-seeded Sedge

Carex disperma has a very simple inflorescence comprised of well separated spikes with each spike containing 1-3 (usually 2) peryginia and 1-2 staminate flowers above the peryginia. It is found in moist woods, wetlands, stream banks and lake edges.
