Carex billingsii (Knight) Kirschbaum, Billings' Sedge (Section GLAREOSAE)
Carex billingsii grows in sunny open peatlands and poor fens in very dense clumps. It is presently considered to be rare in Renfrew County. It was once considered a variety of the very similar C. trisperma species and was only recently elevated to the rank of species [Kirschbaum, 2007]. Carex billingsii has fewer perigynia in the spikelets and finer involute leaves when compared to C. trisperma.
