The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

By Grant A. Bickel, 2020

Carex tenuiflora Wahl., Sparse-flowered Sedge (Section GLAREOSAE)

Carex tenuiflora is a rare species of bogs that has only been recorded from one location in Renfrew County. Still extant more than fifty years later, I recently found it at the same location where Moore and Brayshaw first reported it. Like all members of the Section Glareosae, Carex tenuiflora has gynecandrous spikelets but it differs by having only a few spikelets clustered at the tip of the inflorescence and these are comprised of only a few perigynia.
