The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

Carex radiata (Wahl.) Small, Eastern Star Sedge (Section PHAESTOGLOCHIN)

Carex radiata is found in rich moist woodlands in the eastern portion of the county. It is easiest to identify early in the season (June) when the stigmas are still present on the perigynia. Early in the season, the leaves and spikes are erect (Figure 2) and the perigynia within the spikelets are ascending (Figure 3). Late in the season, the inflorescences and leaves become lax (Figure 4) and the perigynia of each spikelet are widely spreading (Figure 5).
