The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

By Grant A. Bickel, 2020

Carex spicata Huds., Spiked Sedge (Section PHAESTOGLOCHIN)

Carex spicata is a species introduced into North America and is still quite rare in Renfrew County. It is found in disturbed areas and is noted for its reddish scales and perigynia. The very similar but rare introduced species Carex leersii, has also been reported at Braeside alvar but not yet seen by me.
