Genus Cyperus Linnaeus, Flatsedge
The name Cyperus is simply derived from both the Latin and Greek words for "sedge". There are nine species of Cyperus found in Renfrew County. A tenth species in this genus, Cyperus strigosus, has been found close by to the east and may potentially be found within Renfrew County. These Cyperus species are all late season growers, found in flower and fruit from mid-August through mid-October.
