The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

By Grant A. Bickel, 2020

Carex adusta Boott, Lesser Brown Sedge (Section OVALES)

Carex adusta has been collected three times in Renfrew County. One of these specimens, collected at a disturbed site nearly fifty years ago, has been verified. All three collection sites have been visited recently by myself but no living plants have yet been found. It is said that populations of this species could be short lived and dependent on disturbance [Arsenault, et al.]. If true, then locating this rare species in Renfrew County could be rather serendipitous.
