The genus Carex of Renfrew County:
A comparative study

By Grant A. Bickel, 2020

Section HELEOGLOCHIN

The two species belonging to this section grow in calcareous wetlands. They are each distinguished by their habit: C. prairea forms large dense tufts and has a less congested and more lax inflorescence than C. diandra (see Figure 1). These species are similar to Section VULPINAE and Section MULTIFLORAE but can be distinguished from these sections by the presence of reddish dots or red coloration on the leaf sheaths and dark brown coloration on the perigynia.
